Resolvent analysis of a finite wing in transonic flow

چکیده
Shock waves interacting with turbulent boundary layers on wings can result first in self-sustained flow unsteadiness and eventually structural vibration. Due to its importance modern wing design aircraft certification, the transonic physics continue be investigated intensively. Herein we focus discussion three main aspects. First, assess a practical implementation of an iterative resolvent algorithm linear harmonic incarnation industrial computational fluid dynamics code for computing optimal forcing response modes. This heavily relies efficient solution large sparse systems equations. Second, showcase application as predictive tool detect buffet unsteadiness, well before global stability analysis identify through weakly damped eigenmodes, using NASA common research model at wind-tunnel conditions. Third, discuss ability uncover modal physics, not identifiable analysis, revealing higher-frequency wake wingtip vortex modes while shedding some light elusive finite equivalent aerofoil mode. We demonstrate that earlier limitations when solving truncated singular value decomposition matrix-forming methods direct matrix factorisation, have been overcome ready use.

15 صفحه اولA Finite Volume Method for Transonic Potential Flow Calculations
It is proposed to solve the exact transonic potential flow equation on a mesh constructed from small volume elements, which can be conveniently packed around any reasonably smooth configuration. the calculation is performed on two sets of interlocking cells. The velocity and density are calculated in the primary cells, and a flux balance is then established in the secondary cells. The scheme is...
متن کاملFlutter Analysis of a Low Aspect Ratio Swept- Back Trapezoidal Wing at Low Subsonic Flow
A linear, aeroelastic analysis of a low aspect ratio swept back trapezoidal wing modeled as a cantilever plate is presented. An analytical and numerical formulation for both the aerodynamic forcing and structural response of the wing was developed. The analytical model uses a three dimensional time domain vortex lattice aerodynamic method. A Rayleigh-Ritz approach has been used to transfer equa...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Finite Element Variational Crimes in the Numerical Approximation of Transonic Flow
The paper presents a detailed theory of the finite element approximations of two-dimensional transonic potential flow. We consider the boundary value problem for the full potential equation in a general bounded domain fi with mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions. In the discretization of the problem we proceed as usual in practice: the domain Q is approximated by a polygonal domain, conf...

Princeton University, Princeton, NJ This paper desribes a technique for finding the numerical solution of the Full Potential equation for steady transonic flow about airfoils. The exterior but finite domain is discretized by breaking it up into triangles. Difference equations are formulated using variational principle and a formula for the derivative in an arbitrary polygon. The iterative schem...
